2016 Jconcepts Labor Day Shootout
2016 J Concepts Labor Day Shootout
Amain.com would like to first off thank all 205 entries that attended this years 2016 J Concepts Labor Day Shootout race at Silver Dollar RC Raceway and making it a great success.
This year AMain.coms Kevin Jelich (KJ) combined with NCT series promoter Justin Wilde put down a great layout and perfectly ran race. This years layout was fast, consistent, had great flow and produced some great racing which was complimented by the informative and exciting race announcing of Justin Wilde. The layout this year would have a tenth scale option line which allowed for the addition of some tenth scale classes. This combination would prove a hit to the 205 attending entries and bring out some of the best racing to date and some exciting close battles and finishes.
One of the race highlights would come in the addition of a new open overall winner award for the second year in a row. This years race would offer the open division overall winner a package just like the yearly SWorkz race coming in the form of a new Team Associated RC8B3, Reds Sponsorship and AMain sponsorship. With all this on the line it would bring out some top performances from drivers in the Open division.
Another one of the race highlights would come in the new watering system installed at Silver Dollar RC Raceway. Every corner marshals spot would have a small hose so the corner marshal’s after each run could water their respective corner. This would ensure minimal tire wear and ideal conditions all day and especially in the evening when the moisture would come back up.
Saturday would kick of with an intense 3 rounds of qualifying with some guys getting the runs they needed on their final qualifier. After qualifying was over in the open division it would cast the spotlight on 6 possible overall winners coming in the names of Mike Gordon, Austin Azure, Erich Neola, Brian Curran, Kerry Lemos, and Jermaine Robinson.. Most of these drivers would qualify top 7 in both classes and be looking on paper as favorites for the overall win. Pro Buggy would have top names Phillip Atondo, CJ Jelin, Austin Blair, Mason Eppley, Chad Bradley, Jacob Haas and Derek Stephansen all making strong showings in qualifying in the buggy division. 40 + divisions would be top sixed by Scott Rapoport, Marc Robinson, Norbert Puzia, Frank Lagomarsino, Steve Hood and Boris Morales, , E Buggy would be top fived by Philip Atondo, Mason Eppley, Kyle Turner, CJ Jelin and James Arluck and SCT top three would be by Scott Rapoport, Greg Philpott and Richie Bauer . Saturday evening would bring on main events. Justin Wilde would call the main events calling the race clock every minute and keeping the drivers informed of overall position while calling exciting race action on the track. Having Justin on the mic is such a treat and he will be calling more races for AMain in the future.
Ding Ding main event time. With all eyes on the overall open division opportunity there would be no shortage of drama, heartbreaks and success stories. Mike Gordon would be the man to beat in the open division qualifying top two in both classes and leading most laps in the mains. However Austin Azure would take the win in the open buggy division with Mike Gordon coming in second and Jermaine Robinson coming in third.
The truggy division final would set the stage for the overall winner and had its share of triumphs and heartbreaks as well. Austin Azure would have to bump from the B Main truggy to make the truggy A Main. on the tome Mike Gordon would get to a early race lead up until the half way mark where Brian Curran would snatch the lead on a mistake by Mike Gordon. But lurking in the pack was Austin Azure who now climbed up to third position all the way from the back of pack. This mathematically would work out as a tie between Austin and Mike. Austin would go one more lap in the buggy main forcing Gordon to have to go one more lap than Austin in the truggy main. Gordon would step it up and get on the one lap advantage in truggy but would suffer one costly roll over which would catch him at the line half a second from getting his extra lap he needed. Austin Azure would win the tie breaker completing one more lap in the books than Gordon and sealing his overall win for 2016
Congrats Austin Azure on the overall win.
E Buggy would see Mason Eppley and Kyle Turner have a battle that would come down to the line in A2. Kyle Turner would take it on a mistake by Mason Eplpey at the line with a tumble of a pipe hit which caused his car to miss the loop.
Needless to say there wasn’t any shortage of great racing and close battles as you can see by the video links and results.
Amain.com would like to thank everyone who attended and congratulate the TQs and top three on their achievements.
